LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND WHEELMEN.
A meeting of the Council of the Leaguo of New Zealand Wheelmen was held at Christohurch on Monday, August 11.
A special Bub-eommittes reported that the proprietors of the Star had agreed to devote a column each Saturday to league doings and cycling matters. — The Chairman, sajdl that it would 'be necessary to take steps to see that the issue in question was forwarded' to all cluba and centres.
The Auckland Amateur Athletic ami Cycling Club forwarded fresh championship medals in place of those objected to by tho league on behalf of T. Oakes. — The medals were accepted, but tho council expressed! the opinion that they were still below value.
The Committee of the Maraawatu A.A. and CO. wrote protesting against the action. of the council in deciding not to entertain applications for reinstatement for two year* from W. Crarkson and Woodroffe, and in censuring the ohtib for allowing these riders to compete while their reinstatement was pending. — It was pointed out that in April the riders had been asked for an explanation as to why they had ridden, and they had not replied. — The council decided to adhere to its previous decision.
On the request of the Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, Messrs Asquith, Batchelor, amd Kesteven were appointed to confer with Dr Jennings and Mr J. F. CxTierson on the matter.
A letter from T. ELirkwood, who had been disqualified for life, was referred to tho Wawranui Centre.
The Southland Centre forwarded its annuaL ba lanes sheet, which showed a credit balarico of £18 13s 3d. — It was decided to send the balance sheet back, requesting- that it be audited, and to ask for information with reference to tho number of cash and nmateur licences granted.
Mcßsi< M'Keohnie, Donaldson, and the secretory wore appointed to draw up the annual report.
