BALCLUTHA STOCK SALES
Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at the Corporation yards, Balchitha, on. Friday, the 30th nit. Sheep: The yarding was smaller than usual, and was comprised chiefly of crossbred hoggets and ewes, xhere was an excellent demand for all descriptions, and prices were firm. Crossbred wethers were represented by a few pens only,_ and these realised very full rate 3, considering the size and condition of the sheep. Cattle: A very large number were penned, the majority of which consisted of two-year-old steers arid heifers, and the balance of fat and half-fat cows and two or three pens of well-grown bullocks. Excepting for cows fit for killing, which met with a good demand, there was very little inquiry, and prices all round were decidedly eaßier, owing, no doubt, to graziers being disinclined to purchase until the weather shows signs of settling. The above company offered , on account of Messrs Morrison and Black (Lakeside) 15 of their purebred shorthorn cows and heifers. For these there was fair compe- ' tition, prices ranging from 7 guineas to 12J guineas. The range of prices were • Crossbred , wethers, 11s to 14s; best crossbred lambs, 89 6d to 9s Od ; fat do, 10a ; medium do, 63 6d to 7s 9d; crossbred ewes (young), 10a to 12s; do (aged), 3s 6d to 7s ; do (fat), 12s to 14s 3d , forward bullocks, £6 3os to £7 15g ; two-year-olds, £5 to £5 10s; heifers, £3 10s to £4 10s ; fat heifers and cows, £~> to £7.
