ST. PETERSBURG, May 26. M. Plelrwe, Russian Minister of the Interior, has demanded the resignation of Zvolianski, chief of the police, on the ground that he was lacking in foresight in not preventing the murders of Bogoliepoff and Sipyaghine. Privy Councillor Pobiedonostseff has curtailed his holiday. He returned to Russia because tlie police at Wiesbaden would not guarantee his safety. May 28. The Russian Treasury is paying the landlords of the Knarkoff and Poltava ' districts 800 3 000 roubles for losses caused by pea.sant riots. A May 29. An assassin attempted to shoot Prince Oblenski, Governor of KJiarkoff. LONDON, May 29. The newspapers report the arrest of a young woman at Tsarskoe-selo Palace, near St. Petersburg, with an infernal machine, which she had concealed in a handkerchief.
