Otago Draughts Club.

Last Saturday evening, May 31, the halfyearly meeting of the Otago Club was held-, and proved to .be a very pleasant gathering-. Mr B. A. Caldow (s vice-president) occupied the chair, and there was an excellent attendance of about 30 members, including the other vice-president, Mr* "^ B. Barclay, M.H.B. The report of the "reasurer (Mr H. Howes) was listened to with, -leased surprise by all. It showed an incomd tf over £20 for the halfyear, and ovai £Vb h.»« been disbursed, leaving a credit balance oi £1 in 9d, with no liabilities. As the expenditure included the sum of, roughly, £8 for debts incurred during the preceding year, it will be seen that the transactions of the past six months show a credit balance of over £9. The balance sheet* was adopted with hearty applause.

The election of officers and committee resulted in the re-election of everyone, as fellows:— President, Mr W. Miller; vice-presi-dents, Messrs Bobert Caldow and A. B Barclay, M.H.8. ; secretary, Mr Jos. Abemethy; treasurer, Mr H. Howes ; committee — Messra P. Mark, D. Trainor, Broadfoot, G. Eankin, and Sinclaii. The committee meetings had been well attended, only two members having been absent twice, two once, and the rest had been at every meeting.

A resolution was passed recommending the committee to procure one or two sets of chess men for the club, as several members enjoy the variety.

Mr P. Mark was accorded the thanks of tha club for hi 3 unremitting attention to the club100m in fulfilment of his office of honorary, caretaker during the past six months. •

"Four new members were elected, and welcomed with a round of applause.

After a vote of thanks to the chairman, the business meeting concluded, and every face was soon bent on the board again.
