After a furlong had been traversed Goldspur assumed command, and, making every post a winning one, ran home an easy winner by three clear lengths from .Avrdale, Lady Dundas two lengths behind the second horse. Time, lmin Msec. Dividend, £2 14s. Second Day — Fridai, May 30. The North Otago Jockey Club brought their Winter meeting to a conclusion to-day. The weather was fine but cold, and the attendance good. Some very interesting racing took plaeo during the day, and speculation was fairly brisk, the amount handled on both days reaching £205 in excess of, the amount passed, through the machine at the same meeting last season. There was a considerable amount of money shut out of the machine on the Henderson Memorial Stakes owing to fhe prompt despatch of the field. The difficulty between the telegraph authorities and the club was bridged ovei', and it is understood that next meeting the office on the course will be open as usual, but there was no time to make alterations in the arrangements made for the present meeting. Racing to tha second last fence Dartmoor was showing the way to J.P. and My Lord. Dartmoor and My Lord jumped the last obstacle together, but tho Litter tired badly in the run home. Dartmoor went on and won comtortably by four lengths from Seniot Wrangler, and Vanquish finished about two lengths from the second horse. From a good start Fighting Mac was the first to show out, and led Wild West to the distance. Here a good challenge was put in by Lapidary. In a finish between the placed horses Lapidary defeated Fighting Mac by a good head; Wild West a length away third. Time, lmin 20sec. Dividend, £7 13s. A protest was lodged against Lapidary by the owner of Fighting Mac on the ground of inconsistent running on the first day. After consideration by the stewards the protest was unanimously dismissed. Turcoman dwelt at the post, lost a lot of ground at the start, and was fully six lengths behind when the others had gone a furlong. Sir Jolery and Single Event led Narcissus into the straight, but at the distance the latter strode past and won easily. Turcoman put in a good run, and finished four lengths behind Narcissus; Single Event a bad third. Time, lmin 20sec. Dividend, £1 9s. From a good start Donna Rosa was at once taken to the front, and after leading for four furlongs Dundas drew alongside her. Dundas was done with when breasting the hill, and Ardnarff got up on the inside. The latter had" the race won 50 yards from the post, and rani home six lengths in front of Magnificent; Donna Rosa finishing on Majnificent's quarters, while Diindas was last. Time, lmin 45sec. The field was well in line when sent a.way, but R&wjnore and Goldspur quickly singled xhemselves out from, the others. Fighting Mac began slowly, and was last. Racing over the first couple of furlongs, Ra-wmore and Goldppur made the pace very merry, and the former was just showing in front as the pair -were racing for the straight Rawmore retired when breasting tne hill,- and Ayrdale and Fighting Mac pnt in their claims. In the last 50 yards the placed horses were all under the whip, but Ooldgpur maintained his lead to the finish, and beat Ayrdale by half a length; Fighting Mac a long length off, third.
