OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Otago Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr D. Barron), Commissioners Clark, Dallas, Duncan, and Kirkpatrick. The board considered the question as to how the roads proposed to be closed between sections 15, 16, 17, block I, Maniototo, and through section 12a, i>lock 111, Gimmerburn, should be dealt with when closed. — Mrs Inder and Mr Dowling to be informed that the board will be prepared to grant grazing licenses for portions of the road opposite their respective sections, and when they acquire the freehold the roadline will be allowed to be purchased | at the same time. Banger Atkinson forwarded valuation of improvements on section 21, block XVI, Maniototo district. — Valuation for fencing £7 10s. — Approved. The board was requested to determine as to fcow sections 5 to 7, block XVIII, Town of FranktoD (known, as " the Frankton Flour Mill Site "), the license over which expires on. the 28th mat. shall be dealt with. — Mr Robertson to" be offered a, lease for seven years at the previous rental. Application for consent to mortgage an.l transfer of said mortgage : —Miscellaneous lease, R. M'Dougall and another, sections 2 and 3, block I, Crown district, mortgage to R. Baird and transfer of said mortgage to M. S. Baird and others. — Approved, subject to approval of Crown solicitor. The board considered the case of William Lockhart, lessee of section % block X, Woodland district, who has been called upon to show cauao why his lease should not be declared forfeited for las non-compliance with the residence and improvement conditions. — Referred to ranger for a report. The board reconsidered the valuation of improvement on sections in the Town of Alexandra, and fixed them as under: — Section 4, block XIX, £55; section 3, block XXX, £112 10s; section 4, block XXX, £80 10s; section 2, block XXXI, £59; section 3, block XXXI, £73. A letter was received from James M'Gimpey in regard to fines imposed for non-payment of his rents on pastoral licenses within the t'me allowed by the act. — The board was unable to deal with the matter. An opossom was killed by a dog at Doylcston on Friday. The animal was exhibited at the Leeston sale (writes the Lyttelton Times), and excited a lot of curiosity, not one in twenty being able to classify it.
