HURLING
A novelty in the way of holiday sports was provided at the Richmond (Melbourne) racecourse on Easter Monday, where an exhibition hurling match wa3 played between a team of Bungaree players and one drawn from Irish hurlers resident in Melbourne. The match was arranged with the object of reviving interest in the Irish national pastime. Although tho Melbourne Hurling Club was established over a quarter of a century ago, and was followed by a number of suburban and countryclubs, interest in the game id Victoria has been dead for some years, except in two or three country centres. The attendance numbered between 4000 and 5000, most of whom, judging by tho enthusiasm displayed and the personal encouragement offered, were familiar with the points of the game and«most of the players. Not a single mishap occurred throughout the contest, which at times was as fast as the most enthusiastic hurler could have desired. The game ended: All Ireland, 5 goals; Bungaree, nil.
