Fat Sheep.— To-day's yarding numbered 1122, chiefly wethers of fair quality and a few pens of good ewes. Competition, from the limited number of buyers, was fairly keen up to prices about Is per head better than those of last week. Best wethers brought 13s to 14s 9d; medium, lls to 12a 9d ; best ewes, 10s to lls ; others, 8s to 9s 9d. Stronach Bros, and Morris sold for a client a consignment of ewes and wethers at quotations. Piga.— Only 30. yarded, consequently the demand was keen, and prices for all classes ruled in favour of buyers. Donald Reid and Co. (Limited) yarded 23, and sold : For Mr P. Walsh (Gore). 4 at (»a to 48s; Mr R. "Wyber (Gore\ 4 at 66s to SOs 6d; Mr James Dow (Outran:), 7 at 23s to 20a; Messrs Blaikie Bros. (The Hermitage), Bat9s6d to 6s 6d. The Farmers' Agency Company sold bacon pigs to 445; and privately, for Mr W. Sawerß (Stirling), 51 prim? bacon pigs at full market rates. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold 8 pens at quotation?. Country Sales.— The Otago Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association of New .Zealand (Ltd.) report having held their usual monthly sale at Owaka on Friday last, when they disposed of a yarding of 140 head of cattle and 6 horses at satisfactory rates. On. the same day they sold in this district, privately, 1574 lambs and 850 posts at current rates. On Thursday they held a clearing sale at Houipapa on behalf of Mr A. W. Geddes, and on Saturday, at Balclutha, a displenishing sale on account of Messrs Muir and Burley, both of which sales proved satisfactory. Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having hald their monthly sale at Owaka on Wednesday, March 5, when they yarded 120 head of cattle. The demand was good for neatly all i la^^^s of cattle, although the inquiry, if anything, was stronger for two-yes r-o'd steers in good condition. Two and taree-year-oid stcer3 brought £5 to £5 15s ; 18-nionths to tvo-year-old steers, £3 15s to £4 15s; two-year-old heifers, £2 10s to £3 10s; fat cows. £4 15s to £5 10s. Our sales were on account of Mr M. Aberuethy (Romahfpa), H. Tobin, C. Oswold, Francis Tubman, W. Smith, W. Stoddart, and John Lumsder. (Owaka), Alexander Chalmcr3 (Purekerelzi), Wm. M'Phcc (Kemp road), D. M'lntosh (Ahuriri). Sheepskins. — There was no sale thh week. A London, cable, dated Bth in3t., reads as follows: — "' Sheepskins: Merino market advanced id ; coarse crossbreds advanced id ; medium to fine crossbred advanced gd to £d."
• Rabbitskins. — Consignenicnts ars now only on a small scale, and not of prime quality, but all sorts are in good demand. Springs, 1o 16Jd per lb ; summers, to lOJd ; mixed aorta, to 13£ d; srcall, to 9d.
Hides. — Large numbers of Vice sre fir.ding their way to this market, and many of them from far afield. The number of buyers it in-
creasing, and indications point to a si?.~dy demand for some time to come. Quotations: Best heavy "ox, to 5Jd per lb; good ox, 3Jd to 4Jdj light do, 3id ; best cows, 4d to 4Jd ; good do,' 3Jd to 4d; light and inferior, 2id to 3d. Tallow and Fat. — A good demand, and all consignments are readily sold at late raves. Grain. — Wheat: There is a hardening ten-* dency in the market, with some inquiry from' millers for good Tuscan and velvet, supplies of which are short. It is j:ot now anticipated that the season's crop will ba so heavy as was some time ago expected, and prospects for prime milling quality are consequently better. A1!A 1 ! sales in th-a n:arket ara now made on the came lines as those of oats — that is, bag 3 extra. Quotaiions : i'rimc Tnilling, 3s 3d to 3s 4d; medium ar.cl whole fowl wheat, 3s to 3s 2d; broken and damaged, 23 9d to 2s lid per bushel (sacks extra). Oats : All shipping sorts are in very good demand, and inquiries are made for forward delivery. Every truck meantime coming to market is promptly placed. Quotations: Prime milling, 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; good to best feed, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; medium, 2s Id to 2s 2ld per bushel (sacks extra). Chaff. — Supplies are somewhat slack although just recently they exceeded requirements. The demand for first rate quality has improved a little. Quotations: Prime, £3 to £3 ss; medium, £2 10s to £3 per ton (sacks extra). Potatoes. — Values still remain at rather low figures, but supplies are not now quite so heavy. Quotations : Best, £2 to £2 2s 6d ; medium, 35s to 37s 6d per ton. (sacks in). Oats: Best feed, 2s 4d; medium and inferior, 2s to 2s 3Jd. Barley: Feed sorts, 2s 3d; milling, 29 4d; malting 2s 6d to 2s 9d; Lakes, 3s to 3s 6d. Potatoes: Best kidneys, £2 10s to £2 15s. Chaff : Prime quality, £3 7s 6d to £3 15s. Ryefrass: Farmers' dressed, 2s 3d to 3s ; machined, s 6d to 4s Sd per bushel. Cocksfoot, 2£d to 3id. Hides, 3Jd to sd, according to quality. Tallow. — Rough fat, 14s ; rendered, 16s to 21s. Sheepskins. — Pelts, 6d to Is 4d; crossbred, Is 6d to 3s 3d ; halfbred, 2s to 4s 6d.
