SOUTHLAND.
Mr T. P. Brass, a local applicant, has been appointed curator to the Southland Acclimatisation Society. A meeting of delegates from the Invercargill and suburban borough councils was held on Thurbday to discuss the question of amalgamation, but the representatives of outlying municipalities generally did not favour the idea. As a matter of fact, South Invercargill is the largest borough in the colony, comprising some 1700 acres, and much of it is in a state of nature, while the main borough is only 650 acres in extent. The meeting adjourned without passing a resolution. The suburban councils are to be a&ked to consider the matter.
