POULTRY NOTES.

Br Terror.

— The prize list, etc., in connection with last week's show encroaching so much upon the space at my disposal, I am holding over my notes of the judge's criticism., till next week. — Dear Terror, — In the Witness of July 10 I see reference of eggs being sold from imported fowls iaid on the voyage. Now, don't you think it is as bad for he Government poultry farms tc advertise purebred eggs, and when one gets them and hatches them to find they have oniy a lot of mongrels? Such was my case. I got a setting of Andalusians From the Seacliff Poultry Farm. ' I reared eight chicks, and they were a mixture — black, white, and coloured, not a purebred among them. This was last September. I wrote to Seacliff, complaining, but they never took any notice of my letter, so I lodge my complaint through your coloumn, a= I should not like other people to be treated as I was. — Mrs W. M 'Donald, Heriot. [Anda!usian«, whether from Seacliff or elsewhere, do not hatch true to colour. Almost invariably birds other than blue appear in e\ery clutch. — Tebeoh.] — Dear Terror, — Will you kindly give me any information re incubators. I an? greatly interested in poultry- raising, and I think of buying one, but* before— foing so I should like tc know something about it. I can understand hatching the chicks, but wha* becomes of them when hatched? Ttioy cannot do without mothers for a considerable time. I have taken a great interest in youi column lately. Hoping I am not taking up too much of your time, — I am, etc., Mrs Perrt. Rough Ridge, July 15. [Incubator-hatched chickens require a foster mother,"* natural or artificial. Where kindly disposed hens — i.e., birds willing to take over a few more chicks, are not available, artificial foster-mothers or brooders are of course neeessar)'. These can be cbtained from Mr Roberts, of Abbotsford ; Mr Perry, of Ohurch street, Roslyn ; Mr Giant, blacksmith, Mosgiel ; the New Zealand P 1 i.i try and Bee Supply Company, Broad Eay, Dunedin; and others, pamphlets w'th instructions usually accompanying the machines — Terror.]
