ALLEGED ATTEMPT AT WIFE POISONING.

AUCKLAND, June 21.

At the Police Court to-day Emil Berger, remanded from last week, was charged with having, at Ardmore, on the sth inst., attempted to murder his wife. Sub-inspector Mitchell said the police were ready to go on with the case with the exception ot the evidence of Mr Pond, colonial analyst, whose analysis was not yet complete. A further remand was therefore asked for. The prisoner objected to a remand. The Sub-inspector, in reply to the Bench, said it was suggested that the poison alleged to have been administered required peculiar attention at the hands of an analyst. His Worship* "What is the poison?" The Sub-inspector: "Some preparation of aconite, I believe, but I do not know what." His Worship: "I would like to know why the analyst, having had a sample since the 7th inst., is not ready. I think the analysis ought to be completed by now." His Worship explained to the prisoner that if he were discharged for want of evidence he would probably be rearrested at the door of the court. The prisoner consequently withdrew his objection to the remand, and the case was further adjourned for a week.

Forwabd Policy of the Liebig Company. — For many years confusion has arisen between the original Liebig Company's Extract and other extracts called by Liebig's name. The genuine Liebig Company's Extract" bears the blue signature, "J. V. Liebig," but to make the distinction clearer and to remove all risk of buying imitations it will henceforth bear an additional trade mark composed of Liebig's Extract of Meat Co.
