NOTES BY AMATEUR.

Geo. Robertson, the 'champion Irish cyclist, met with a shocking accident at the Ulster Athletic grounds recently. He was training for the Irish Mile Championship at Belfast, and was sprinting down the finishing straight, when a cricketer rushing after a ball ran into him. Robertson came down with terrible force, fracturing his collarbone and sustaining other very serious injuries. He was* removed to the Royal Hospital in the ambulance.

Willie M'Manus just missed winning the double at the West Maitland athletic sports the other day. In the All-comers' Handicap, 75yds, he started off 2iyds, and finished second to W. Ward, 12yds, in the final, the distance being covered in 7 4-ssee. There were only four runners in the 440 yds Handicap, and M'Manus won pretty well as he liked from scratch. P. Scanlon 12yds. was second; P. Deerfoot, 28yds, third; and H. Filmer, 43yds. fourth.
