The demand for timber far exceeds (ho supply, although sawmillers are doing tbeir ntmost to keep pace with it At a meeti ~ig of the Sawmillers' Association it was decided to raise the price by 6d per 100 ft;, bringing the" price up to 7s. This it the third advance made within a few; months, but the increase ib justified by sawmillers on the plea of the extra length of haulage consequent upon timber convenient/ to the sawmills being exhausted. The continuation of tire Gvey Hokitika' railway to Ross is being advocated, on tl o West Coabt In Ins address at Hokitika tl c other day the Right Hon. Mr Seddon piomi^ed to bring the matter before Parliam3nc and urge the necessity of at once proceeding with the work.
