Xews has just been received of the death of Renata Te Kawharu at Whnngarei Cioixelles ; aged 88 years. He was the last chief of the Nga Te Koata tribe, and was a connection of Te Rauparaha, his father having come south from Waikato. He was highly esteemed by Europeans, and did his be«t to elevate his race. He took much interest in the establishment of a Maori school at Croixelles. He assisted in piloting the expedition ships into XeKon Haven.
