Notes from Bald Hill Flat. (From Our Own Correspondent.) April 2.

The Last Chance Company have had a very successful wash-up within the last few days, having obtained 83oz of gold "rrbni their last paddock. This makes an acre of ground sluiced away in "nine weeks — a really good performance. The total amount of gold obtained from the acre was 130oz. This company have still about an acre of similar ground to work, when a- move will have to be made on the higher terraces. Messrs Carrol and Lynch have also had a fair run, some 50oz having been obtained from the top stripping of their present paddock. The Bald Hill Flat Company's dredge has had steam up for some time, and is ready for work, if not already started. The Fourteen-mile Beach Company have been running their dredge in the hours of daylight for some days, more to test the machinery and electric plant than for actual gold-getting, but I understand she started properly yesterday. The electric machinery runs like a clock, the dredge also works well, but the winches are not by any means first-class. Should no alterations in thf> winches be required, a long-waited-for return should be heard of very soon. The Golden River machinery is also being placed in position. Tho contractor has, however, been somewhat hampered for want of a good fitter. If the work is not pushed on some of the best, part of the season will be lost. I don't think there will be any doubt, however, but that the dredge will work sweetly when completed, as Mr M'Cormack is taking every pains to see that every part fits prop»rly. The Sixteen-mile Beach is also well forward, and should have the wheels turning within the next six weeks.
