C.J.C. AUTUMN MEETING. First Dat — Monday April 8.

Fine weather was experienced for the flist day of the C.J.C. Autumn meeting, until late in the afternoon, when a smart shower fell and it turned cold and raw. Pampero's victory in the Easter Handicap was easily achieved, and he is now a pronounced favourite for to-morrow's big race. Over £10,110 was handled during the # clay- The following are the results: —

AUCKLAND AUTUMN MEETING. First Day — Moxdat Apbil 8. For the first day of the Aueloland Racing Club's Autumn meeting the weather was showery. The attendance was large. The =urn of £12,339 was passed through the totalisatov. Nonette was made a strong; favourite for the Champagne Stakes and outclassed the opposition, winning comfortably by a couple of lengths. Peter. In the run home Defender held his own gamely under pressure, and won by a bit better than a length fiom Regalia 11, who was a length and a-half in front of Dayntree. Beddmgton was fourth. Okoari was still in the lead as they dashed past the half-mile post, and Rosella had headed Firefly. Rounding into the straight Okoari was cloeed on by Rosella and Hohoro, and as the Derby stand was passed Rosella responded gamely to a call of the ■whip, and in the run to the post caught the judge's eye a length to the good of Hohoro, ■with Firefly well up third, and The Needle fourth Time, lmm 42 l-ssec. Cannongate and Cavaliero moved off in front, and at the first fence were joined by Kaimate, but soon after Tim took charge, and was a couple of lengths in front of Cairo and Kaimate past the half-mile post. Passing the stand Tim was bowling along a length in front of Cannongate, with Cavaliero close up Tim ■was the first to negotiate the hurdle in the straight, and as they settled down for the run to the post Cannongate challenged the leader, and a great struggle to the post resulted m a verdict for Cannongate by a head, with Fortyseven half a dozen lengths away third. Time, 3rnin 52sec. On the totalisator, £1432. Dividend, £3 10s.
