LAND BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday, and was attended by the j Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland) and Messrs Clark, Dallas, Duncan, and Kirkpafcrick. Thomas Johnston applied for license to oc-' cupy section 35, block XVI, town of Moeraki. — Iteferred to ranger for report. Ranger Mackenzie reported on sections in blocks XL! to XLV and XIX to XXIII, town of Pembroke.— The following to be offered as suburban land at the rate of £5 per acre: — Sections 1 to 7, block XIX, 1 to 8, block XX, 1 to 8, block XXI, 1 to 8, block XXII, 1 to 8, block XXIII, 9 to 12, block XLI, 1, 2, 4 to 6, block XLII, 1 and % block XLIII, 9, block
XLIV, 9, block XLV. The Secretary Macraes Library Committee •wrote asking that the committee be allowed valuation for building used for libraiy purposes on section 3, block IX, town of Macraes, in the event of not securing section. — To be allowed 14 days to remove building. John Dorreen applied for license to occupy sections 4, 5, 6, and 7, block XIV, Moeraki. — Declined, sections being public domain. Messrs Newton and Borton. wrote on behalf ©f R. Johnston asking the board to again consider decision re residence on se.etion 10, Maerewhenua estate. — Previous decision adhered to. Mrs M. M'Erlane applied for renewal of yearly license to occupy the forest reserve adjoining s.g. run 2255, Gimaierburn. — Renewed on former terms. The receiver of land revenue was authorised +o pay over the amounts received as valuation for improvements on the following sections: — Section 22, block XI, Clarendon, £11, less £2 3s arrears of rent and £1 10s costs of re-entry ; section 12, block VII, Woodland, £20, less £4 4s 9d arrears and £1 10s re-antry; section S, block .VI, Rankleburn, £6 lls 6d, to be paid to pxiblic account on account of rent; section 16, Block XII, Mt. Hyde, £6 17s 6d, lees cost of re-entry £1 10s ; section 2, block XIII,. Rimu, £7 10s, to be paid to public account for rent. ' W. S. Laidlaw, on behalf of Angus Kenney, Requested the board to reconsider the decision „xc application for license to occupy part of block XVII, town of Alexandra. — Declined. * Andrew Allan wrote intimating that he did not again intend taking up section 15, block rVII, Woodland. — To be- required to leave section within one month, otherwise steps will be Itsiken to prosecute for illegal occupation of Oown lands. Transfer of occupation lease section 75, block IX, Maerewhenua, Isaac Barker to William Smith, was approved. The following were referred to the ranger for report: — Application by Georg.e Parker for license to occupy section 24, block I, Akatore; letter from J. Langinuir ra capital value of section 5, block X, Woodland. The following sections on Pornahaka Downs estate were dealt with as under: — Sections 2 and 53, sections 51 and 61, block X, sections 48, E2, and 49, block XI, to be re-opened grouped, •with valuation, £197 16s ; section 4, block XIII, section 9, block XIV, do, with valuation, £271 17s; section 5, block XIII, do, valuation £10 17s 6d; section 8, block XIII, do, valuation .£ls ; section 9, block XIII, do, valuation £194 12s ; section 12, block XIII, do, valuation £117 6s ; section 13, block XIII, to be re-opened, with valuation £158 8s 6d ; section 21. block XIII, do, valuation £50 ; section 4, block XIV, do, valuation £35 103 ; section 5, blook XIV, do, valuation £288 103 ; section 6, block XIV, do, valuation £243 18s 6d; section 7, block XIV, do, valuation £345 8s; sections 16 and 17, block XIV, to bo re-opened giouped, with valuation £99 Is 6d. F. W. M'Brido wrote suggesting an alteration in the boundary of run No. 10, Wakatipu.— Declined. C. _ T. Eason requested -thai; the board reconsider its decision re his application to transfer section 29, block 111, Catlins.— Board cannot see its way to alter previous decision. Re run 95, Hunter Valley, the license of which expires on February 28 next, it was resolved to grant a new license for three years at £5 per annum, with license fee (£1 Is), subject to Minister's approval.. The following cases of holders of improved farm sections were dealt with: — Patrick Fanning, section 1, block XII, Tautuku, consideration deferred; Robert Wilson, iun., section 9, block IX, Woodland, leave declined, forfeited, conditions not having been complied with. Assistant-ranger O'Neill reported on section 9, block VIII, Teviot, lately held by J. M'Loughliii. — Recommended for notification at capital value of 10s per acre; value for improvements, £45 10s. The surrender of pastoral license over section 25, block I, Woodland, by J. A. Pullar, was accepted; land recommended for notification at capital value of 7s 6d per acre, with value for improvements, £130 li~. A memo, v/as received from the Assistant
Surveyor-general re timber illegally cut and seized by Crown in Tapaiiui Bush. — Timber to be sold to Forest department at_a price to cover expenses of seizure.
The following were approved: — Statement of proposed expenditure of " thirds " and " fourths " by Waikouaiti County Council for period 2nd July to 29th September, 1900; to exchange pastoral license for lease in perpetuity section 5, block XIV, W. H. Tregonning ; to transfer pastoral license, block XXV, town of Dunkeld, Susan Caitfpbell to Alexander Borth-
wick, jun. ; s.g. run. 311, section 1, block IV,
,3£akanui, Walter Smith to Hannah Smith; to , , purchase section 13, block IV, Glenkenich,
Bridget Harris. Ranger Mackenzie reported- on the application to have mining reserve, town of Cromwell, set aside as~a domain reserve.— Declined. Ranger Mackenzie reported on the unsold sections in Lo~wer Hawea district.— Resolved that sections 4, 5, 10, 11, 16, 17. 20 to 24, 24a, block IV, section 3, block VI, section 30, block V, be grouped and offered as a pastoral run for a term of 10 ytars atupse* rental of £4; section? 4 to 7, 10 to 13, block VI, 27 to 29, block V, 8* 10, 11 to 16, block VII, to be grouped and
offered as a pastoral run for a term of 10 years at upset rental of £10, both runs to be class II ; sections 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, block IV, 21, block V, 18 to 21, block VII, to be notified at capital value of 5s per acre, valuation on section 6, block IV.
At the meeting of the Land Board on Thursday, which was attended by Messrs W. Dallas (chairman), Clark, and Kirkpatrick, the following business was transacted: —
It was decided that the following should be asked to show cause why their sections should not be forfeited for non-compliance with cropping conditions: — Mrs Jane Murray, section 22, block XV, Moeraki district (Makareao estate); Mrs Mary Flynn, sections 56 and 61, block VII, Tokarahi estate.
The following transfer was recommended for the Minister's approval: — J. Milling ton to Henry J. Porter, section 5, block VIII, Tokarahi estate, and also sections 5a and sb, Tokarahi estate.
The cases of a number of selectors in arrears with their rents were considered. In a number of o.ises additional time was allowed for payment, and in the following the holdings were declared forfeited : —
