WANGANUI SHOW. WANGANUI, November 22.
The Wanganui A. and P. show, held today, was the most successful in the history of the association. The entries were only a little below the aggregate of Palmerston. North, and in excess of % Christchurch, the figures being — Christchurch, 1067; Palmerston North, 1262; Wangamii, 1130. The display of horses was the best yet held in the colony, especially in the draughts and the hack classes. It- was a beautiful day, and there was a record attendance. The championships were awarded as follows : — Draught entire horse, W. H. Anderson (Oraigielachie) ; Lincoln ram, J. W. Wilkie (Manutahi) ; Lincoln ewe, John Wilkie ; Down ram, E. S. E. Lancaster ; Down ewe, E. S. R. Lancaster ; shorthorn bull, Moore and Hunter's Oxford Duke of.Verdon ; shorthorn cow, A. A. Fantham's Duchess of Derrimut ; Jersey or Alderney bull, John Donald's Hector Macdonald ; best cow in milk (Jersey or Alderney), Mrs Crawley's Sylvia. Visitors present from all parts of the colony spoke highly of the show a.s a whole. It is intended to hold a two days' show next year.
An old resident of the Naseby 'district passe& away suddenly on Wednesday, October 24, in the person of Mrs Whitehead, sen. She had' been ill for a long time, but it was not expected that her end was so near. The deceased lady leaves a husband and grown-up family of three sons and two daughters to mourn their loss.'
