IMPORTANT SALE OF DAIRY COWS AT INCHCLUTHA.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held a, very successful sale of dairy cows on account of Mr John Dallas at his farm, Inchclutha, (en Friday, the '-23rd inst. Mr Dallas having decided to give up dairying, the whole of his herd was offered for unreserved ■sale, and as the cows were an exceptionally good lot, one of the finest both breeding and condition they have had the good fortune to offer, there was a- considerable gathering present .of -those farmers .interested in dairy farming. The demand right through the sale . was strong, and the prices realised "satisfactory. The 23 dairy cows, mostly in full milk, realised ■ from £5 to £10, averaging £6 2s 6d per head. Dry cows and young lieifers also met with a good demand, and sold from £5 to £3v3 v 8s 6d. The only horse offered by Mr Dallas" was a strong, upstanding filly (suitable for buggy, or light spring cart work), tv/o years old, which brought £27. The pigs, consisting of. 15 slips and porkers, met with a fair sale at from 15a to 225. At the conclusion of Mr Dallas's sale _ 30 dairy cows and young cattle, horses, etc., were offered on account of Mr William Shaw, A. Dunn, C. Penman, and W. Wilson (Kaitangata), D. Dallas (Te Houka), W. M'Kinlay. and Smaill Bros. (Inchclutha). The whole of the cattle onercd were sold at the following rates : — Dairy cows at £4 10s to ££> 17s 6d ; dry cows, £3 5s to £5 10s; young cattle, £2 to £2 18s ; hacks brought from £7 10s to £10 ; spring cart harness, etc., satisfactory prices. CLEARING- SALE AT ISLAND CLIFF. Dalgety and Co. (Limited) 1 report having held a very successful clearing sale at Island Cliff on account of Mr' Hugh Gordon. Owing to - Mr Gordon having disposed of his property, all the stock, implements, and. sundries w,ere offered without reserve, and met. with good competition from a < large attendance of buyers. Sheep : The flock consisted of ewes and lambs, which sold at 10s lid each (all counted). Cattle: Dairy cows were well competed for, and realised from £9 10s to £4 10s; dry cows, £2 5s to £3 15s; young cattle to £2 10s. Horses: 1 The demand for these was all that could be desired, and the prices realised satisfactory. The highest 'price obtained was for a bay mare (aged) with foal at foot at £53 ; bay filly, three years, £50; while others brought from £38 to £30; hacks and spring cart horses, £10 to £15 10s. Besides the stock sold on account of Mr Gordon there were some 25 horses offered on account of various other vendors, the most of which found buyers. Good draught mares andi geldings realised from £35 to £41; aged, £16 to £30; hacks and harness horses, £7 10s to £16.
