PROLOGUE AND CHAPTERS I and ll.— Three men, Marcus Crane, Tudor Owen and Siephen.Lorne, prisoners at the Old Bailey, are sentenced for an anarchist outrage to 20, 15, and W years' penal servitude. Lome, who is an enemy to the law in consequence of being defrauded out oi some patent rights, declares that he is in '.favour of the ~Ju"stice,of Revenge. He bids .farpwell to his wife from the dock. Time passes; and after six years he is' liberated on ticket of leave and is again -a free man. On the morning of his liberation Marcus Crane escapes from the gaol. On arrival in London Lome sends a telegraphic message to his wife and waits.
