PASSED AW AY.
Thou liast passed to the land where no mourner is weeping; Where fear cannot enter, nor sickness, nor guile; And tiie God 01 thy fathers hath thee in His keeping, And-thy soul is made glad with His cherishing smile. •1 stand by thy grave in the silence of evening, And sadly and wearily brood o'er the past ; Till a yoice from the dim world above, inter- " vening, Implants a. new hope in my bosom, at last. "O mourner! Why cling to thy grief and repining ? This grassy mound hicler but a remnant of clay; Look xip, where the soft star of twilight is shining, And think 'tis her spirit that sheddeth the ray- " For so doth she shine in the light of the Father; And when thou shall have pass'd through mortality's night, Ye shall roam the tair gardens of Heaven toj gether, And pluck the bright bloomc of an endless delight." I I turn from her grave, and the stillness around me Seems full of the promise that hreatheth of life; The Father's sweet voice of compassion hath found me, And stilled all the murmurs and calm'd all the strife! — H.
