: A meeting of the committee of the D.J.C., lield on the 20th 3 .was attended by the Hon. George M'Lean (in the chair), Messrs Carr, Thomson, Solomon, Hazlett, Coughlan, Mills, Grindley, Vigers, Bullock, and Myers. Apologies were received from Messrs, Meenan, Dawson, and Taggart. Re the Farewell Handicap at the Spring meeting. — After an exhaustive inquiry the committee decided tjiat, while the running of the horses Jupiter and Maremma was of an extremely suspicious and unsatisfactory character, the evidence was not sufficiently clear to warrant "the carrying of the motion for tire , disqualification of those horses, their owners, and riders for a period of 12 months. On the application of the North Otago Club R. Kingan and the hoTse Ejector -were placed on the unpaid forfeit list for fees due. The Secretary reported that the grounds at Wingatui had been let for picnics as follows : Trinity Wesleyan. Sunday school, February 2 ; All Saints' Sunday school and R. Hudson and Co.'s employees, February 9. — Approved. The Chairman reported that his Excellency the Governor had accepted the club's invitation to attend the races next week.
The following licenses were granted: — Trainere — G. Ruthven, T. C. White ; jockeys — W. Atley, R. M'Kay, W. Ruthven, J. Ruthven, W. Hunter, and Gilbert M'Lear. A letter was received from the Cattle Flat Hack Racing Club, giving their reasons for removal of the disqualification of D. Russell, who was disqualified for life in. July, 18S6, for " ringing-in." — The explanation not being considered satisfactory, it was decided to write to the club asking them to forward the evidence that induced them to remove the disqualification.
