ALEXANDRA, October 23
The Molynexix is slightly lower to-day. The Manulierikia Itiver has been running pretty high this week.
More electrical plant for the Earnscleugh No. 3 company arrived yesterday afternoon. The Sailor's Bend dredge will probably not be able to go down to her claim till the beginning of next week, as one or two slight alterations are being made, and the dredge boats are not yet to hand.
The Glasgow dredge may now be classed among the working dredges. For a, week or so she will be working during the day time till a paddock is properly opened out. The claim is reputed to be rich, and it also adjoins the •well-known Perseverance claim. The dredge is a veiy large and poweiful one, md should reap a golden harvest for its owners (private people). October 25. The Molyneux is slightly more than 4Jft above the normal, having risen 2in or 3in since yesterday. The Maiuihenkia River is discharging a good deal of silt into the Molynevix to the disadvantage of the dredges below the junction. The Herald understands that the Chicago Dredging Gompany have also appealed again&t the warden's decision in the case Chicago Company v. Enterprise Company. The former company appeal on the points of law and fact, and the latter company appeal on n point ot fact only. The whole case will therefore be opened up again before the judge. Owing to the bursting of several flanges m the pipe line, the starting of the Fourteen-mile Beach dredge has been delayed for a few days. The Peiseverance Company -will shortly be commencing the erection of their second dredge, which will be a very powerful one. The dredge of the Nil Desperandmn Company (in liquidation) was put up by auction to-day, but was passed in at £2000.' October 26. The Molyneux rose a little during the night, and this afternoon is a shade over sft above normal. Good progress is being made with the dam for the Earnscleugh No. 3 dredge. No time is being lost in getting the tipper framework erected on the Dunstan Lead dredge. An impiovement is expected in the returns for the week. The coal bost for the Sailor's Bend diedge was delivered to-day. October 27. j The Molyneux has fallen again, and is now about <t^ft above normal.
The dredge Moa is working abreast of the Point, now having pulled ahead a short distance. A large portion of tho housing is on the Golden Falls dredge, the erection of machinery on which will soon be finished. The Molyneiix Hydratilic Dredging Company have disposed of all their piping, the last of it going to Haughton. and party's clp.im, above Roxburgh.
■ October 28. The Molyneux lose very suddenly last -night, and reached a height of a little over lift above noimal early tins afternoon, but is now receding. The Sailor's Bend dredge broke away from her moorings early this morning, but was pulled up by the headline of the Moa dredge. 'She is uninjured, and safe.
October 29. The Molyneux has fallen slightly over 2ft, and is falling slowly. A great deal of rain fell here again last night and early this niornmg. The high river will interfere to a certain extent with the dredging, as a large quantity of diift is travelling. The Sailor's Bend dredge is lying safely near the east bank, a short distance above the Moa. A good deal of building timber for dredges came down the river, most of it escaping down the gorge. The returns from 12 local dredges give an average of 40oz for the week. They are all satisfactory. The Sailor's Bend dredge was pulled up by the buckets, which were hanging low, catching on the bottom. The brakes on the winches all gave way iinder the extra strain. They would not hold.
