The annual meeting of the Bakery FJat Sluicing Company was held on Friday afternoon at the company's office. Crawford street. Mr E. Melland presided, and there were seven shareholders present.
The following annual report was submitied . " The directors have pleasure in reporting that the prospects of the company have improved considerably during the year just closed. The races have been completed, the water supply has been good, and the ground payable, with the result that the amount standing at debit of profit and loss last year has been made up, the mortgage on the water races repaid, 2s 6d per share has been distributed in dividends, md a balance of £144 17s 3d now remains to be dealt with, Messrs John Blair and J. Harrison Jones retire from the board, but are eligible and offer themselves for re-election. Messrs Barr. Leary, and Co., the auditors, also offer a continuance of their services."
The Chairman, in moving its adoption, said that there. was nothing to say except what was favourable. The company has not* been profilabie up to txow ; there had been two dry seasons at the beginning, which hindered the working. They would have a fair supply of water in the future, and the ground was better. Two divide, *,— one of Is and one of Is 6--1--were paid during the year, and that day the directors -had declared another dividend of Is 3d. This would still leave a considerable sura in hand. The future of the company looked very much Brighter — they had plenty of water, s;ood ground, and a small capital to pay dividends on. The expenses in future would be smaller than in the past.
Mr Hazlett said that he had visited the claim recently, in company with Mr Bathgate, and was impressed with the fine character of the wash. He thought the prospects of the company were very good. Mr Bathgate seconded the motion, and the report was unanimously adopted. The retiring directors, Messrs J. Blair and J. li. Jones, were re-elected, and Messrs Barr, Lcary, and Co. were re-elected auditors.
