UPPER CLUTHA GOLD DREDGING COMPANY..
The first annual meeting of shareholders in the Upper Clutha Gold Dredging Conrpany was held at Messrs Reeves and Co.'s office on Thursday, Mr James Wardell (the eha n rman of the company) presiding.
The annual report, which was as follows, was j adopted- — "Your dhectors have pleasure in placing before shareholders the first balance sheet for the period ended 30th September, 1900. No time has been lost in having the dredge completed and at work on the claim at as early a date as possible. Following is the report of the company's engineer, Mr Edward Roberta, as regards the progress of the dredge: ' I beg to report as follows regarding progress of dredge machinery : The winch is completed, and -ready for delivery by Messrs Lucas Bros., of Christchurch. The contractors for the rest of the machinery, Messrs J. Sl'G'regor and Co., are making patterns for machinery, spur wheels, etc. The shafting is now being cut up into lengths, preparatory to turning. The condenser is being made. All the material is £>t hand for the work, and contractor expects to get, finished within contract period. Re- - garding pontoons, I think' it will be advisable to call for tenders for pontoons about next month, as that would be scon enough for the machinery.' Two of the directors, Messrs Eichaidson and Tapley, retired from the board, and your directors elected Mr J. Solomon. Mr D, A. Joll* also retires, but is eligible for reolsction. The auditor, Mr Thorns", Chalmer, retires, but is eligible for re-election." The balance sheet, which showed calls in arrear amounting to £1032 os, was also adopted.
Messrs H. L. Tapley and D. A. Jolly were re-elected directors, and Mr Thomas Chalrner was re-elected auditor for the ensuing twelve months.
