THE D. J.C. RACES.
This meeting begins at Wingatui to-day. The acceptances and general entries number 61, or 15 more than last year. The large percentage of acceptances shows, as I expected it would, that Mr Dowses handicaps have given satisfaction. As only about half of the Witness readers will get their paper in time to read -it before the races begin I need not trouble to write my reasons for the selections, but will simply state what they are: — Hurdle Bace: Ilex, after a set-to with Clinlcer and St. Hiko. Hack Handicap: Off Chance to win, «,nd Bracken and Benson to fill the glace s,
- — » rr-r; — — — — j-fc^-— Mosgiel Handicap : Brisa for choice, and Jupiter best of the remainder ; but I reckon this ought to be a good race. Maiden Plate : La Reine, if all start; if she goes fo J r the Hack Race, however, I shall stand Black Pool to take the Maiden. Electric Handicap : St. Denis, after a race with Pampero. Selling Race : Sub Rosa is perhaps the pick of a queer lot, and Izal is not to be despised. I October Welter : Abercrombie may get home I after a race with Glenelg.
