THE MATCH AGAINST VINCENT COUNTY.

ALEXANDRA, September 8. xhe Otac;o team touring the goldfields were entertained at a smoke concert in Roxburgh, Dr Mullin presiding. The toasts honoured were:— "The Queen," "'The Visitor*.," "Roxburgh F.OV' "0.R.F.U.," "The Press," and "The .Ladies." A vote of thanks to the^ chair and the singing of ''Atild Lang Syne " ended a most enjoyable evening, during which members of both learns made themselves known in song and stovy. Hosts Spooner and Heron made everybody comfortable.

The third match of the tour was played at Alexandra on Saturday. The team arrived at 1 o'clock, having- left Roxburgh at 7 a.m. Bond and Dey stood out of the Otago team. The weather was cold, but the attendance was the best of the tour.

Vincent County Team.— Full back, Read (Alexandra) ; three-quarters — Raphael (Alexandra), Sutherland (Alexandra,). Simmonds (Clyde), Cahill (Upper Clutha); halve=— Carter (Upper Clutha;, Harming (Clyde); foi wards— Todd, Low, Morgan (Alexandra), Saxby (Clycie), Bringans (captain), Campbell, Wrightscn, Holden (Upper Clutha).

Vincent won the toss, and O'son kicked off with the wind for the Blue?. CahiF miskicked, and play was taken to Vincent twenty-five. Raphael cut off a pass from Hislop,. and ran to the Otago line. Off-side play by Vincent gave the Blues a free kick, but Olson failed. King returned the kick out, and Cahill got away well, but was collared by Casey, the ball going into touch in the Blues' twenty-five. A free kick to Vincent gained no ground. The Blue forwards carried the ball to Vincent territory, But passing by Sutherland and Carter rapidly carried the play to Otago twenty-five. His' op relieved with a, good kick. Casey marked, and Raphael mulled the return. Off-side play by Vincent gave Ota^o a scrum near the Vincent goal. The ball came out to Hislop, and passing through the hands of Sinclair, Fordyce, and Munro, let Bennel in near the goal posts. Olson converted. Cosey returned tho kick-off, but owing fo a ljnock on Vincent (yellow) lost a good chance of scoring. Hislop relieved. From a free to Vincent Read had a shot at goal, but the ball went wide, and Ofago forced. Fordyce picked up from a forward rush. Ronald, playing off-side, gave the Yellows another free kick, which Hislop returned. A nass by Hislop was mured. Cahill was collared near the Vincent line, and Raphael setting off-side over the lino, a scrum five yards out followed. After a series of scrums, Sutherland cut off a pass and relieved. King, after a l'un, was thrown into touch. The Blue forwards started a rush, to which the Yellow replied in kind. Sinclair marked from a knock-on, and from the return Casey antl Bennet, following up, spoilt the return kick, a chance of scoring being spoilt by a knock-on by Munro. Vincent replied, and Simmonds carrying the ball down the line, Olson forced. . Cahili replied to the kick-ouL, and Case;/ gained ground by a long kick. Pawing by Hislop. Sinclair, Fordyco, and Munro carried the ball to the line, whore King missed a pns-. Ronald marked, and the forwards spoilt the return, but were penalised by a serum for knocking on. The ball came out quickly, and lively play followed on the Vincent line, Raphael collaring Bennet whoa ho looked dangerous. Sinclair kept the ball (oo lonsr in a passing rush, and a bard kick forced Vincent down. Hard play foFowed. mil il half-time, the score being : Olago, 5 points : Vincent, nil.

The Olago team were tired after the journey, and did not care about playing «o soon. Jt would have been bettor if they could have had a night's lest at Alexandra, before playing. King, Fordyce, Sinclair, and Hislop were the piuk of the backs. Dunne, Smith, Olbon and Rowlatt were about the be&t of the foi wards, who all worked hard.
