LAWRENCE, September 5.

The first match of the Otago football team to tour the goldiields was played at Lawrei.ee io-day. The weather was showery, bvt the attendance good. The following were the teams : —

Otago: —Casey, Bennel, Mimio, King, Sinclair, Foidyce, Hislop, Ronald, Abbott, Harris, Dunne, Eov/latt, Willelt, Smith, QUon. livwbence —Bloy, Lee, Roscoe, M'Kpy, Wallace, Airey, Robertson, Murrjy (captain), Montgomeiy, Bryant, Aitkev, Anderson, Applegarth, Vivian, M'Donald. Sinclair won the toss, and played with the wind. Murray kicked off for the home team. For the first 10 inhales play was near the centre of the ground. Play centred m the Lawrence tw enty-fh c, till passing by the Blue backs let Beimel in at, the corner. Olson failed with the kick. The resumption of play brought no relief to Lawrence. A passing rush by the Blues was spoilt by Munro, and Lawrence forced. Airey carried play past the centre. A free kick was awarded the Blues, and Lawrence were again on the defensive. Olson failed with another free kick. From a scrum, at the half-way Fordyce broke away, and passing by Sinclair, Munro, and King let the last-named score in a good position. Olson failed with an easy kick. Lawrence were forced shortly afterwards three times in succession by long kicks by the Blues. Offside play by Dunne enabled Lawrence to relieve the pressure. By a dribbling rush Lawrence carried play to the Blues' line, where a free kick was given them. Bloy made a good attempt at goal, but the wind blew the ball back. Half-time was called shortly after, with the score : Otago, 6 point* ; Lawrence, nil. Olson kicked off in the second spell, and play centred till a passing rush by Hislop, Fordyce, Sinclair, and Munro Faw the last-named score between the |Dosts. Olson succeeded in corverting. The Lawrence forwards carried the ball down the field, but passing by the Blues' backs ended in Bonnet being collared on the line. A rush by the Lawrence then took liie ball over the Blue line, but Casey beat Sing 'Lee for it. After the' kick out the Lawrence forwards carried play to the Blues' twenty-fhe. A series of scrums followed on the Blues' line. Rosooe marked, but the kick was resultless. The ball wap kicked dov n the field, and from a loose rush King picked it up at the halt-way,, and pcored between the posts*. Olson failed with an easy kick. Give and take play followed till Itonald scored between the posts after a forward rush. Ol&on again failed to convert. After the kick out Lawrence carried the ball down the field, but Casey returned with a long- kick. From a scrum on the Lawrence line Hiplop found a clear space, and scored. Casey failed with the kick. After the kick out Lawrence attacked, but Ca^ey relieved. Time was called with play in neutial territory, the scores being : Otago 20 B poinU Lawrence ... Nil. For the town team Casey, King, Hislop, Fordyce, and Sinclair were the pick among the backt, aud Ronald, Smith, Abbott were the best of an even set of forwards. For Lawrence— who only want coaching to make a good team— Bloy, Roscoc, M'Kay, and Airey were the best backs, whila Murray Jjryant, and M'Donald wore the best in the forward division.
