September 10. — The bachelors of Dipton held their annual ball in the Public RpII on the 7th inst. Great credit is elite, to the ball committee for the way in which the affair was, conducted. The committee consisted of Messrs Jas. Burgess ( secretary and treasurer), K. Pittavay, A. Dowler, G. Dcagan, J. M'Laughlan, W. Kozian, and D. M'Lean. "'lie giand march w.is ied off at S o'clock by Sir D. M'Le.m arc! hi«partner, Miss Ferguson, over GO couples caking part in it. The hall was beautiiully decoiaicd -with flags and evergreens, the, only drawback toeing that there wa~ not sufficient dancing voom. Music was supplied by Miss M'Kenzio .(piano), Mr M'Kenzie (cornet), and Mr Shancl (violin), while Mr D. M'Lpan made an efficient iVI.C. There was a plentiful supply of lefrcshments, whicli were handed round twice during •the night. Fruit and lemonade were also landed round. I shall not attempt to describe !^he dresses of the ladies, because I could not Ao them justice. Dancing was kept tip till 6 o'clock in -the morning, when everyone went iome well pleased with their night's enjoyjn°nt.
