SUCIDE AT PALMERSTON.

Between 5 and 6 o'clock on the morning of the 29th the occupants of Wheeler's boarding house at Palmerston (writes our correspondent) were aroused from sleep by an alarming report of firearms in the house. Mr Rankin, who was the first to rush out of his bedroom, found, on going into an adjoining room, a young man name:! Robert Lewis Hume Jamieson lying on the floor with a shotgun beside him, and half the face blown away. A doctor and the police were sent for. He was fully dressed in his uniform, and left a message in writing on the table, requesting to have his father in Dunedin informed of the affair by telegram in time 1 - to .enable him to go to Palmerston by the express. Deceased was about 25 years of age, and had been, it L said, in ill-health.
