CLYDE.
July 30. — The mild spring-like weotlier of the past two weeks has had tho effect of swelling buds on the earlier fruiting trees. This may result in tho buds breaking into blossom at an unseasonably early stage, when they are likely to be injured by late frosts. In Memorifim. — A brass tablet, suitably inscribed, has been placed in the council room to the memory of the late Cr Sheppard, who filled the position of chairman of the council during the four years preceding his demise. Mr Sheppard found the finances in a deplorable state when he first took office as chairman, and in the four years in which he filled that position he successfully piloted the council out of debt, brought order out of chaos, in fact, till he nad the satisfaction of controlling a good credit __ balance at the council's" bankers. At Wednesday's meeting of the council a little oversight was apparent on the part of councillors in not making some reference, however slight, to the presence of the memorial tablet.
