EXAMPLES OF FORTITUDE,
KRUGER AND HIS THUMB.
The Boer President is universally regarded as a " tough nut " to crack, and even Britain may well exercise caution in dealing with a man of the iron will exhibited in a story, told by a, contemoorary. The Boer President, whilst shooting one day, had part of his thumb blown off. The surgeon advised amputation of the arm, bub Kruger said no. Then he suggested removing the hand, but Kruger objected, and the surgeon threw, up the' case. The patient thereupon sharpened his knife, and: with singular fortitude, out off portion of his . thumb, and the wound healed. --Hera is another example of fortitude—a local one. Mr"3 S. Crisp, when seen by & Sportsman reporter at her mother's residence, 10 Belston street.
F ootscf ay, said that some time ago St. Vitus's dance attacked her. Her hands and limbs trembled involuntarily, her movements were beyondi control, her face twitched, and she vas always weak and languid, although under medical treatment. But one day, after readingan advertisement, she tried Dr Williams' pink pills. Great benefit resulted from one box, and, continuing with them, she was cured. Some time after, she was attacked with apoplexy, asthma, and consumption. One side was paralysed, and she could not move, and though despite all treatment she did not improve, she never complained, but all through, bore up with singular fortitude. Then, wondering whether Dr Williams' pink pills would cure her, she tried them. She felt better two weeks af tercommencing them. Gradually tha paralysis left her, the cough abated, she became stronger, and by continuing the pills regained perfect health. This kind of narrative is constantly recurring, for there is hardly a town where there are not some people, once suffering invalids, who have been restored to health by Dr Williams' pink pills. The genuine always bear on the white wrapper the seven-worded title, Dr Williams' pink pills for pale people, printed in red, and are sold by the Dr Williams' Medicine Co., Wellington, three shillings per box, post free, and by chemists and storekeepers — but mind you ask for Dr Williams'. People are learning by experience to refuse substitutes, for no instance has come I to light of a substitute benefiting anyoue.r" ! Advt. . . -
