LAND BOARD.

Tho weekly meeting of the Land Board, held at the Lands office on Wednesday, w as atteiided by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitlaud), Messrs Clark, Dallas, Duncan, and Kiikpatrick.

John Bum's applicrtion for- allotments 13 anil 14, Janeneld settlcme.it, was approved.

An application to transfer section 99, block 11, Oainaru, from W. Campbell to W. Frascr, was referred to Ranger Atkinson for report.,

An application to transfer allotments 16 and 26, Janefield settlement, from Jessie Dunlop to Wm. Chas. Dunlop, was recommended for approval of the Minister for Lands.

Duncan Smith (as executor in the estate of Benjamin Jefferson) applied to transfer section 59, block- IV, Swinburn, to Wm. Egan. — Approved.

C. E. Spean applied to surrender section 30, block XI, Tautuku-Heathfield Improved Farm settlement.— Accepted. Ranger Hughan reported on the application by Jas. Smith and others for lease over sections 46 and 47, block 11, Hiliend district (Manuka Island).— Declined. Ground to be recommended as reserve for tree-planting mirposes.

Assistant-ranger O'Neill reported upon section 33, block IV, Glenomaru, re-opened for application in February last, but not yet applied for. — Recommended for notification at capital value of 12s Gd per acre, with valuation for improvements reduced to £80.

C. E. M'Phee wrote le amount allowed a3 valuation for improvements on section 39, block VI, G lenomaru. — Received.

Wm. Mollison applied for a lease over section 64, block V, Hiliend Island, at mouth of Waitahuna River. — Declined.

Assistant-ranger Q'Neill reported on the application by Alexander Neitl "to suncnder section 6, block XIV, Rimu.— Accepted. To be notified at capital value of 7s 6d per acre, with valuation for improvements, £41 10s. The Receiver of Land Revenue reported that the following, whose holdings -had been forfeited, had paid, all arrears of rent : D. Sample, l.i.p. IIS; A. Harris, o.r.p. 34; L. Lowance, o.r.p. 25; R. Donald, d.p. 5122; A. G. Speak, l.i.p. 199; D. Kinney, l.i.p. 194; E. Dow li.p., 20; F. Wilson, r.l. 765; F. Bruce, l.i.p. 951. — Forfeiture rescinded. John M'Donald wrote asking permission to occupy the house on section 5, block IV, Woodlands, recently held by James Limnden. Permission granted till land re-ouenerl.

A.ssistant-ranger O'Neill reported on section 22, block IV, Tautuku, recently opened for application, but not taken up. — Recommended for notification at capital value of 7s 6d, with valuation for improvements reduced to £240. Jas. Jackson's lease over section 51, block X. Pomahaka Downs estate, was declared forfeited for non-payment of rent.

Assistant-ranger O'Neill reported on the application by W. Wilson to surrender section 19, block IV, Tautuku.— Accepted. Land to be notified at 10s raer acre, with valuation £315 lls.

Spveral tenants of the Pomahaka estate whose sections have been declared foi felted for nonpayment of rent wrote asking that a valuation of their improvements be made ss soon as possible, and that they be paid for the same.—Received.

Andrew Dalsiel and Wm. Persson applied for license to occupy sections 22, 23, and 52, block VIII, Benger. — Referred to ranger for report. F. H. Pugh applied to have license over section 12, block VIII, Woodland, forfeited, as he is unable to pay any more rent thereon. — Forfeited accordingly.

Mr Joseph Hatch is endeavouring to float a company for an auxiliary vessel for the Auckland, Campbell, and Macquari© Islands trade.

On some of the very hard frosty mornings last week quite a number of the swans on the lakes were frozen in (says the Olutha Leader). Sometimes they got on the ice, but found it impossible to gsfc their wings in motion.
