WAITATI.

The young ladies of "Waitali held their annual ball in the Good Templars' Hall on Wednesday, 20fch insi., and it proved very successful. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion with flowers and ferns, while a number of flags, kindly lent by the Union Steam Ship Company, assisted materially to heighten the effect. A large number of friends — some from a considerable distance — responded to the invitations, with the result that the hall was well filled, some 60 coudes being present, besides some elderly guests. Dancing was kept up till about 3 a in., with the exception of a short interval for refreshments, of which there was abimdance, of excellent quality. Mr A. Fenwick, on behalf of the gentlemen present, and Mr J. Munro, of Dunedin, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the ladies for their kindness, jhe compliments being duly acknowledged by the latter. Mr Yates, Dunedin, officiated at the piano, which was kindly lent by Mrs Colehan, and some extra dance music was supolied by Miss W. Colehan and Mr A. Beadle. Mr '.Pickard rendered some vocal items during the evening, and the duties of M.O. were efficiently carried out by Mr Morriss.' The success of the was in a great measure due to the efficiency of the honorary secretaries — Misses N. Colehan und E. Ferguson',— who performed their duties thoroughly. .
