CAMBRIANS.

Julie 22. — Tho frosts are so inteta.se that all outfloor work is at a standstill, and curling operations will soon be in full swing.

School Concert. — A very enjoyable and successful concert was held in t* c local hall here on the 15th inst. The object was to raise funds for the school. Mr Burnett, in his usual capable style, officiated as chairman, and the success of tha enter ta.inment was due in no small measure to his efforts. Miss Ziorrison delighted the audience with " Arrah 8 o on, ' " The holy city," and " Dear heart, ' iiesidea responding to several encores. Dr Ste; house contributed "' Off to Philadelphia, ' an." ''Robin Aclair ' in good style, While Misses M' J-uckin and Collins, two of the school girls, gave "Hush aby, baby," in a manner that evoked • i *-e wannest applause. Mr Allan sang " The • Englishman" and " Mona " in good style, -md had to respond to encores. The next item on the programme, a violin duet by Messrs Morgan and Allan, was well received, as was . so their second item. A hornpipe, danced in r. graceful manner by Mr J . Alexander, form-* x a pleasing variety in the programme. Mrs U 'Levie then sang very sweetly that beautiful -*v>ng " Too late," while Mr Chris. Fahey essa.- Ed the comical element and sang "Hi tidly 'ii ti ' in a style that would have done crec. ' to a much larger place than Cambrians. l- c sses F. Colling and J. M'Guckin sang "Th > cows are in the corn" very nicaly, and Mr :i. Alexander sang "The slave's dream," acc<*yi;ably. "The man from Snowy River, the : ym contributed by Mr G. 3arr, was recited v:li good efftot and a good deal of declamatory -!orce — a unanimous encore ■being demanded. The first overture, '' II 3accio," was played by Miss Sheppard (piano) and Mr Allan (violin) with great spirit, the expression being well rnaiked, while the second, a piano du§t, "Cana.ry Quadrille," as played ■by Misses Eenwi'-t and Sheppard, exhibited a good deal of technical skill on the part of the performers, and was played' in a really arlisitic style. "' Sons of the sea ' and "Soldiers of the Queen," sung by Mr Allan and Miss Morrison respectively, evoked great enthusiasm, and the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable conCert to a close. The Rev. Mr G ellie, in a few apt remarks, make reference to the many excellent qualities of our worthy chairman, Mr Burnett, both as a resident and as a public man, which remarks I heartily endorse. In spite of the fact thafr the weather was a strong factor against the success of the concert, I am informed on reliable authority that the funds of the school committee will be considerably augmented. A dance followed, which was kept up with great spirit to the excellent music supplied by Mr S. Morgan "till the wee short 'oors ayont the twal." A word of praise is due to Miss Mary Senwick, who kindly took in hand the work of accompanist, a duty which she fulfilled in her visual csipalble style. — Occasional Correspondent.
