CLYDE.

June 25. — The members of the locaL dramatic club staged the "Arabian Nights" comedy to a fairly good house on Wednesday evening last. The parts of the leading characters were admirably filled, the acting of 'Mr Harold Stevens being especially meritorious, cast as he was in the character of the husband who" is goaded to indxilge in hyperbole by the machinations q£ an unscrupulous _ mother-in-law. In the character of Mrs Gillibrand, Mrs Gilkison was more than successful, her acting at times being of a finished order, there being a total absence of any desire to strain after effect, which fault is so noticable a feature of amateur work. Miss Fache made a most acceptable Georgina ; Miss M'George made a charming ward, and filled the part perfectly. Miss Stevens, as rnaid-of-all-work, had no great demand made upon her undoubted histrionic abilities; and as Stockings, Mr G. Stevens made the most of small matters. Mr Hutton, in the character of Ralph Ormerod, acted very nicely, and succeeded m giving an accurate interpretation of the part. As Rosa, Mi William Holloway wps inimitable, difficult as the part was recognised to be. Mr Hill took the character of the effirninate son of the designing Mrs Gillibrand, with much success. The play throuighout was highly entertaining, rounds of applause greeting the efforta of the leading characters, whose careful interpretation of their parts met with the ready appreciation of the audience. I learn that tlit>" club intends repeating the comedy at Alexandra some day soon, and if co, I can assure my readers in the golden borough ' that they will enjoy an evening's attendance, at the "Arabian Nights." Carters Wanted. — Tons upon tons of dredging material isi lying at Ranfurly, and there ia not nearly a sufficient number of carters available to cope with the demand for delivery throughoxrt the interior. Are there no enterprising waggoners to take up the running? The roads are good; the late of freight, £3 pet ton to Clyde. Business Note. — Our butchers' shops look well stocked nowadays with prime beef and mutton, the greater portion of the stock being procured at Ida Valley. The condition of the meat is proof of the nutritious quality of the pastures in that locality. The price of meat has been raised a halfpenny per pound all round. This step was necessitated by the nigh prices ruling for stock of all kinds. Bird Poison.— l have not heard if the Vincent County Council has received the bird poisoA

Eor distribution; but have learnt that the pest is doiug much damage to fruit buds already. Bunny. — The Lands department have still men employed laying- poison on the Earnccleugh runs. The season's operations so far have been most successful, the work being Bxecuted under the personal supervision of Mr ■Watson, who is an expert in the modus operg.ndi of baiting for bunny.
