Fat Cattle. — A vei-y small supply came forward to-day, the total yarding being 81 hejd. Prime beef 'was especially scarce, and values ruling were £1 a head, and in some cases more, over last week's lates. Inferior and medium beef also met with a good sale, but the rise was not so marked as in that of prime quality. Best bullocks brought from £8 10s to £9; medium, £1 to £S; inferior, £5 10s to £6 10s; best cows brought from £5 10s to £7; medium to inferior, £-3 16 s to £i 15s. Dalgety and Company (Limited) sold two pens for Mr John Bsitf and Mr William Kirk (Mosgiel), at cows to JB4 12s Gd, and bullocks £G 5s to £5 loa Maclean and Co. sold : For Messrs T. Jennie, W. Kirk, J. M'Master, T. Caddie, and Curie 7 head at current rates. Fat Sheep.— Only 1059 came foiward for today's sale, that being the smallest number yarded this season. Piiccs for prime wethers ruled from 6d_to Is a head higher than last week's rates. Ewes, however, were very much dearer, and, in comparison with last week's prices, they were selling to-day at from 2s Gel to 3s dearer. These continued' high prices are tolling heavily on the butchers, and we understand that a movement is now on foot to raise the price of mutton Id per lb all round to the consumers. Best wethers brought from 19s to' 21s 3d (one extra pen 233 6d) ; medium, 16s 6cT to ]8s; inferior, 13s Gd !o 15s; best ewes, 17s 9d to 193 3d; medium, 15a 6d to 16s Gd; inferior, 12s to 14s. Grain. — Wheat : During the past week the inquiry has not been quite so sti-ong, but really ' prime samples still sell at lately reported xate3. Medium and second class, however, are very hard to place except at fowl feed prices. Quotations are as follows: — Prime velvet and Tuscan, 2s 5d to 2s 6d; red sorts, 2s 4d to 2s sd; medium and second class (nominally), 2s 2d to -2s 4d; good, whole fowl iesd. Is lid to 2s ; broken and inferior, Is 7d to Is 9d (sacks in, terms). Oats: The market continues very dull, and it is difficult to place any sized lines except at a reduction in prices, and • even then shippers are not anxious to operate, only purchasing sufficient to fill immediate requirements. Prime ■milling, 1? 8d to Is 9Jd; good to best feed, ]s 7d to Is 7id ; medium "and inferior, Is 4d to Is 6d (sacks in, net). Barley: The only demand is for really piinie samples, which bring from 2s 9d to 3s 3d. A few sales of from medium to good quality have been made at prices ranging froni 2s to 2s 4d, but the demand for this class is very limited. Milling is worth from Is 7d to Is 9d; feed almost unsaleable (nominally), Is 4d to Is 6d (sacks in, net). Potatoes. — Supplies sent forward during the last week have been heavier, and prices are in consequence a little easier. Prime northern j Derwents, £2 5s to £2 7s 6d; southerns, £2 to i £•2 5s (sacks in, net). S Chaff. — Really piime quality is inquired for, but medium and light is in over-supply, and very hard to dispose of. Values range as follows ; —Prime, JC2 12s 6d to £'2 15s; extra prime, 2s 6d more; good, £2 7s 6d to £9. 10s; j fair to medium, £1 2s 6d to £2 ss ; inferior, .£1 15s (sacks extra, vet). Eabbitskins. — Very few coming to hand, and ) these consist for the most part of summers j tmd autumns. Prices remain on about a par j with those quoted last week. Summers, 7d to . 9d; autumns, 9id to 12d; blacks, 12d to 18d; small, 3d to 5d pel lb. Sheepskins. — There wos a fair attendance of "buyers at Tuesday's auction sale, and although bidding was not very brisk most of the lots on offer found buyers. In future auction sales J •will be held weekly instead of fortnightly, as > they have been during the summer and autumn | months. Quotations : Merinos, 2s 5d to 4s 6d ; I halfbreds, 2s 6d to 4s 2d; crossbreds, Is 9d to ! 3s 3d. Hides. — All coming to hand meet with ready sale at the following rates: — Heavy ex, -ljd to 4|df medium, 4d to 4|d; cows-, 3id to 4d; inferior, 2£d to 3id. Tallow and Fat. — Supplies continue to come forward steadily, and meet a good market. Best tallow brings fiom 16s 6d to 20s ; raechurn, ris Gd to 15s 6d; rough fat, from 9s to 14s.
