TRAINING NOTES FROM WINGATUL. (By Early Bird.)

May 16. The first to work on Wednesday morning' was Slumberer, who accomplished two rounds on the grass track at a slow gait, while Magic covered the same distance at a faster speed.Patron negotiated once round on the inside • track. Off Chance and St. Hiko were given a good working gallop of two citcuits, and Edelweiss and Plotter accomplished two rounds in company. The former is quit© sound again, and is looking well. Nihilist, who is in great heart, negotiated twice round in a workmanlike manner, while St. Denis did strong work. Brisa and Maremma accompanied each other over two circuits afc' half pace. Lakefield did the light task of cantering once round on the grass track, and! : La Reine was sent a three-quarter pace mile. Gitanella, who is very rough in appearance 1 , cantered once round, while Blackpool did 1 long, alow work on the grass. Ellis's team did not put in an appearance this morning-, and Hankins did not work his tepm. May 17. M'Comb set the ball rolling this morning by sending Slumberer once round on the inside traok at three-quarter vacs. Benson finished in front of Proposal and Fulmen at the end of •five furlongs. The iime registeied was lmin. Bsec, but as the inside track is not measured, I doubt if the above-mentioned hors.es ran the full distance. Aberciomble, who is looking better than I have seen him before, accomplished a circuit at three-quarter-pace, while Decoy executed work of a similar nature. Mwernma'and Brisa jumped^off at the mile and a. quarter post, and after .going six furlongs Maremma gave up, while Brira was joined by Patron, who finished in front of the Birthday candidate. The gallop was a satisfactory one. St. Hiko went very strong in a twomile gallop, iii which he finished well. Threequarter pace work was given to Off Chance. Magic had no chance with La Reine over five furlongs. Jupiter s'.rode along very nicely in. a mile and a-auarter gallop, while Blackpool was treated to half-pace Avork. Nihilist held a slight advantage over 3t. Deris, after traversin£? six furloruM on the inside- aiass track. Lakefield left "four furlongs behind at top spee r ', while Gitanella proved too many for My Fancy at the ssmc distance. Romanoff, Edelweiss, and Plotter tried conclusions o-ei-four furlongs, Edelweiss proving too good foilier opponents. Quiekshot 11, Stockfish, and G-oldsyar were also worked. May V\ Young opened proceedings by sending' Magic two rounds at racing pace over hurdle-:. He is a good jumper, and will t'irn out a fair hurdler in tim?. Sluraberer cantered and. trotted twice rojii'J, "mi ilihv,? I "ast over the last quarter. Jupiter, who is looking rather light, did slow work, with a ,'-purt home, and Abercrombie executed haK-paea exercise. St. Hiko was jumped at the hm-clloo, and shaped fairly well, but in my opinion jumps toe high, and therefore loses a <>reat- deal ot ground. Nihilist cantered once round on the inside grass track, while Si. Denis traversed! one circuit. Higgins, who veele the son of St. Cl«ir in his work, is a first-etoss horseman. One round of the inside track was covered by Offchance, while the some work was allotted to 'Wy Fancy. Romanoff. 81-.okpool, GitanelH,'Plotter, Edelweiss, Goldlirk, Proposal, Fulmen, Benson. Decoy, and Goldspur executed ha If -pica work. Goldlink l\i^_ arrived in charge of R. Cresswell, and is looking fairly well. Most of the Chriptchurch horses were expected Hst evening- (Fmby), including Paladin. Scottish Minstrel, Red Bsnner, Glenogle, Voltaire, Te Tpi?ha, and others. I understand thit T. Buddicombe will hava the mount on Nihilist in the Biithdny Handicap. With such a good horseman in the saddle, Nihilist should have a "ood chance of annexing tho stake. The present fancy of the local trainers is llu.t the race will bs fou?hfc out between Jxipiter, Fulmeu, and Scottish Minstrel. The track is now getting in first-class order, and should the fine weather continue, tha course will be good going. j May 19. Shortly after 8 o'clock on Saturday mornins Cutts commenced operations by sending Glenogle once round :\t half-pace. The horsa moved very free in his work, and is looking bright and healthy. Secret Service covered twice round at a fair bat, and Si. Hiko proved too many for Magic in a two-circuit spin. Jupiter and Abercrombie finished together a.t the end of seven furlongs; while Mr Fancy ealloped ? fast halfmile on the outside of the r icing track Witchcraft went very well ma, sW --furlong spin, covering the distance in lmin. 3} [■zpc on V c outside. The next to do battle wA'o B^ckpool. Slumberer, and Gitanella, who were jumped off at the six-furlong post, and raced home at top. Blackpool proved victorious over his comrades, the time registered being lmin 31see on the ouHde ; while Lakefield finished in front of Patron in lmin 33sec. Brisa and Maremma finished together after covering five furlongs Goldspur and Goldlink were treated to half-pace work. Nihilist and Fulmen jumped off fromj;he mile post, and after going two furlongs were joined by Proposal, St. Denis and Romanoff accompanying Jiem from the five-furlongs. From this* out the pace was made very fast, with. Proposal at the head of affairs. The finish was a good race between Fulmen and Prc■posal, with Nihilist next, and St. Denis last. Edelweiss held an advantage over Plotter and Decoy in a five-furlong spin. Scottish Minstrel made his appearance on the course, but was only treated to walking exercise. From appearances, he looks to have undergone a sound preparation, and is very fresh. Red Banner and Bristol arrived from the north on Saturday morning in charge of D. Taqgart ; while Cutts arrived on Friday evening, and is accommodated at O'Kane's Hotel. Gitanella, while undergoing her usual preparation, broke down very badly, and therefore will not be a starter at the meeting. Yesterday morning before breakfast saw Cults' s horses— Glenogle and Scottish Minstrel — ■ doing half-pace work. Both are in the pink of condition. After breakfast Quickshot II traversed half a mile fast on"' the outside, but did not finish with his usual dash. Romanoff and Nihilist did slow' exercise; while Stockfish executed seven furlongs at a. fast rate. Goldspiir, Valentine, Bonaparte, Te Taiaha, Warrington, Whario, and Voltaire did serviceable work. Most of the visiting- horses hare arrived, and with good weather the meeting should be a fii-3t-class one. Loose boxes are at a premium, and it is now very difficult to obtain them, all having bee» spoken for weeks ago.
