TO LILLIAN.
We saw your ship upon our way — Right gallantly she dipped her bow, While one who gazed nyon the spray Had longing on his brow. Said he: "Oh, silv'ry waves, be kind To seek the island where she stays — All hidden in yon mist behind — A girl of winsome ways. ' "Fair is her face — and silv'ry crest; Her truthful lips, her peaceful eyes Were lures that brought me to a breast Wherein all beatify lies. " Oh, tell her, every star that shines, And all the hours and thoughts that come, And every wreath that Hope entwines,' Are paths that lead me home." We left his ship that very night, So pressing was his mute command; Nor stayed until v/e saw you write His name xxpon the~sand. Breathe not a passing sigh — he waits The bid of duty to return; Nor Time nor fairer scenes abate The fires of Love thai; burn. Farewell! We'll seek his toiling craft, If only for thy friendship's sake, To whisper, as he leans abaft, The words you bid us take. SILVERY WAVES. Addington, April 29. i
