SOUTHERN MAORI MISSION.
A meeting of the Committee of the Southern Maori Mission was held at the Bible Depot on Friday last. There were present — Rev. R. R. M. Sutherland (chairman), Messrs Wm. Brown, P. Barr, J. Hercus, Wm. Ing?, J. I. Monfries, E. Rosevear (hon. treasurer), and A. H. Reed (hon. secretary). Neho Papakakura, the Native colporteur recently engaged by the committee, was also present. The Missioner received a hearty welcome, and, judging from his high recommendations and from what the committee have personally seen of him, it is trusted and believed that he will have a good and lasting influence xxpon the Maoris of the South Island, amongst whom he will travel. It was arranged that he should commence his duties almost immediately, visiting Port Molyneux, Taieri Ferry, and the Peninsula, and that a committee meeting should be held early in June, at which an interesting report of his work may be looked for. It was decided that the colporteur should be kept constantly supplied with a stock of suitable literature, printed both in the English and Maori tongues, and the distribution of this will form one of the most important branches of the work.
Messrs P. Buck and Wi Repa were invited to s,eats on the committee.
The Hon. Treasurer (Mr Ernest Rosevear), Bible Depot, acknowledged, with thanks, the receipt of the following contributions: — Friend, 10s; Friends, £3 3s; Friend, ss; C.
