ACHILLES GOLD MINING COMPANY 1 . SUCCESSFUL RECONSTRUCTION. (Fkom Our Om Correspondent.)

LONDON,

March 10.

Yesterday, at the Cannon street Hotel, the statutory meeting of the Achilles Gold Mining Company was held. Mr J. M. Eden presided. The attendance was good. The Chairman alluded to the reconstruction and the great success which had attended it. The new company had been registered on the 17th November last; the first allotment had been made on the 14th December, and the second on -the 21st December, so that the allotment had 'been completed within five. weeks from the date of the registration — a fact which reflected great credit on the secretary, who had acted as liquidator of the old company. The •capital of the reconstructed company was £86,000; -that would be represented by about 85,979 shares. Tlie number of shares applied for- was 731,346. Jliis, Jie thought, was a most remarkable condition of things, especially when the state of the money market at the time, and the condition of mining was taken into consideration.

- Mr Morcamb, the manager, a most capable man, had been taken ill, the Chairman regretted to say. His illness was very serious, and he' had to return to England. The second in command, also a highly-capable man, 'had been left in charge, and with him were others who thoroughly knew their work. Mr Morcamb was only sorry that his health would not allow him to go back, for he was sure the mine would develop into a large and successful property. In October, November, December, and January the mill had crushed 577 tons for sS9oz of gold, or an average yield of 18 2-3dwt per ton. If they could only get another patch of ore which would give anything like that the results ought to be, very satisfactory indeed. Mr Edgar 'Taylor then gave a resume of the woTks carried out and proposed. The chief of these wera the development of the north and east branches of -the 600 ft level, the most" inJnnifH 116 , trial being the cross cut south at the bOOit level. As the programme was laid down by Mr Morcamb before he left the colony there is no need to give you these m detail. ' In reply to a question, Mr Taylor said that tne deepest part of the mine was 610-ft. Ihis concludsd the proceedings.
