Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
LYELL, February 16. The Mine Manager of the Alpine mine reports as follows:— The No. 7 level has been redriven 13ft for the week, making a total distance to date of 115 ft. We are not yet up to the solid face. We are still rising south above this level, but have" not yet reached the top of the old stopes. Stoping has been discontinued for the present in the stopes over No. 11 level. The winze from No. 10 level south has been sunk a further depth of 7ft, making a total distance of 24ft. At this depth the reef became small, and a drive has been started south to asceitain if the reef dips in this direction. The stone is of fair quality in the winze below No. 11 north. A solid stope has been driven north a distance of 10ft. The stone is payable in the roof of this stope. The reef is Bft wide, and is dipping slightly. For the week 70 tons have been sent to the battery.
