Notes from Wakatipu.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Arrowtown, February 17. — It is understood that Messrs Monk and M'lnnes have sold their famous claim at the Sandhills, Upper Shotover, to Mr A. J>e. The cum is fipisi to be £700.

This cla-im wa3 one of the eyes of the district, and has turned out a large amount of gold. The Rolling Stone Dredging Company, Cardrona, confidently expect to make a start with their new dredge in a fortnight's time. The dredge has been all but completed for upwards of a month, but the finishing pieces of machinery weic mis-sent, then lost altogether, and have now to be replaced by new ones ; hence the delay. In the meantime some important alterations have been made to the dredge, which in some measure will compensate for the lo&s of time.

The Shotover Dredging Company having acquired one of the two dredges of the Golden Terrace Dredging Company, Shotover, will, before long, be m a position to practically test the value of their giound, as their dredge is only a short distance from the claim, and can be easily and inexpensively floated down and placed in position, within, say, a fortnight's time.

Generally speaking, mining and dredging matters are remarkably quiet, nothing of any importa~nce having cromped up for some time past. It is to be honed that it is the lull the precedes the burst of renewed activity.
