MEETING AT SOUTH DUNEDIN. HORSES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE PROVIDED.

A meeting of the residents of South Dunedin, convened by his Worship the Mayor (Mr T. Fiddis), was held in Naumann's Hall. South Dunedin, on Wednesday, and attended by between 60 and 70 persons. The Mayor, who presided, ptated that the object of th« 2 meeting was to consider what steps they should take to provide a horse and equipment for the fourth contingent. Only £50 was wanted, and he thought the money could easily be raised. Patriotic speeches were then given by the Revs. I. Jolly and T. G. Brooke and Cr Marlow, all the speakers being very warmly applauded. The Rev. Mr Brooke also recited "The absent-minded beggar," amidst great applause. On the motion of Cr Marlow, .seconded by Cr Scott, it was resolved to authorise the mayor to inform the Central Organising Committee that they pledged themselves to provide a horse and equipment for one member of the fourth contingent. On the motion of Cr Lyons, a number of those present decided to form themselves into a committee to canvass South Dunedin for subscriptions. Cr Marlow was appointed secretary of the committee, and the sum of £13 12s was collected in the hall.
