ENTERTAINMENT.

A very successful sccial was held in Asylum Hall, Seacliff, on the 31st ult., in connection with St. Barrmbas's Church, Warrington. The varied programme included songs by Misses Easton,' Parata (Puketeraki), and Williamson and Mr Hawkes (South Canterbury) ; recitations by ,Miss Coughlin and Mr Kuy; pianoforte solo by MI3S Mcc; and selections by the band, under Mr Haigh. These items were all much enjoyed,. An attractive feature of the evening was a dialogue, entitled " The Secret/ by Misses K. M'Lean and S. Baitleman, which was very much appreciated. The performance closed with a capital farce, entitled " A Very Serious Affair," in which Misses Cou<*hlm and Puller and Messrs Baine3 Duffy, Matthews, and Kilgour took part, all of whom acted well in their respective parts. Refreshments wore provided as usual. The chairman (Mr J. G-. Kay) accorded a heaity vote of thanks to Dr King for the use of the hall, and to all those who worked so hard to make th* social attractive. The entertainment was ctrtainly one of the best held in connection, with the church, and notwithstanding the recent calls on the people of the district, the proceeds, which will go for repairing the church oxgan, were the largest ever realised at a churcb c social m the district.
