CLINTON.

January 22. — Mr Stark, a clerk in the local station office for the past two years, has been removed to Dunedin, to take up a similar position in that town. During Mr Stark's stay amongst us he has made himself very popular, and carries away with him the best wishes of the Clinton people. Mr Collins, from Dunedin, takes Mr Stark's place here.

Flying Machine. — Mr Joseph Maitland is, I understand, going to exhibit his flying machine at an early date,, and the proceeds are to be handed over to tha patriotic fund. I have

referred to Mr Maitland's machine 01 -sviour occasions, and therefore need not take vj spac( m your columns m explaining it pgrir. Mi Maitland has been working diligently at his ma^ chine of late, and will have it leady for tha road in the course of a few days. It is very thoughtful of Mr Maitiand to exhibit his machine in the inteiest of the "Absent-minded beggar" now in South Africa. It is to be hoped there will be a large gathering to c^u the machine in motion. Mr Maitland id a true Briton, and the night he exhibits the machine it will be carrying a small cannon, and also the Union Jack 01 England. Holiday.— The Rev. Mr Spence is at present enjoying a well-earned holiday at Port ikiyncux. The local pulpit has been oecumec! during his absence by the Rev. Messrs Howes and Kilpatrick, who have attracted laige congregations. The Rev. Mr Currie, from l:alclutha, is to take the service here next Sunday.

Picnic— The English Church Snnrhy s.-i-col picnic is to be held on Wednesday, 31st inst. This is always a very enjoyable outing, and it is to be hoped the present one will be no exception to the rule.
