PORTOBELLO RIFLE CLUB.
The Portobello Rifle Club held the final competition for Mr G. G. Russell's nnd Drs Hodge and Borrie's prizes on Saturday. Ranges, 800, 500, nnd 600 yds; seven shots ai each distance. The following are the highest scores: — ' ■°* Mr James Dickson, 80; Major M'Cartney, 80; Mr James Riddle. 71; Mr A. Dickaon, 71; Mr William Geary, 70; Mr J. S. M'Cartney, 61. Mr William Geary takes Mr G. Gk Russell's prize, with the score of 374; Mr James Dickoon Drs Hodge's and Boriie's prize, 367. The other highest aggregates were: Major M'Cn-rtney, 354; Mr James Riddell, 842; Mr J. S. M'Cartney, Sl4. At a meeting of- the club, held at the same time, it was resolved that the annual Christmas shooting be held as 'usual on Christmas Day, and that steps be taken to get another target erected, so as to get ths shooting through in quicker time. There will be the usual social gathering, and as a large number of prizes will be given, a record attendance is anticipated.
Tha Orepuki Liberal League entertained Mr Gilfedder at a social, and presented, hint with a purso of sovereigns a* some recognu tiori of litß cervices' in Parliament.
