MOONLIGHT RAINBOW.

Oh, rare is the radiance of rainbow by lightHast ever its delicate tracery seen 9 The moon in mid-heaVen, the cloud looming westward, The soft-falling shower between. The luminous arch on the gloomy cloud curtain, §o pure and so perfect, so dainty and fair, 'Twould seem like the path whore a ministering angel Had cleft with her white wing the air. And such is the- song I would sing thee, beloved, As tender as twilight in soft robe of greyj> Bringing her balm for the work-weary spirit, Healing the wounds of the day. I would steal the sweet thoughts that the daisies arc dreaming, E^e their emerald caskets unclose to the day; Or snatch from the scent-burdened wings of the zephyr The perfume of lilac and may. From the fabulous store in the castle of sunset I would bring' thee rich treasure of rubies and gold ; Or, grasping the hem of the evening's blue garment, Tear a gem from its star-broidered fold. But the glories of sunset, like fairy gold, vanish, Earth's flowers give their lives vpth their sweet-scented breath ; The rainbow's soft light fades away as we watch it. Love only is stronger than Death ! —LILIAN. Narrandera, November, 1899.
