THE SPIRIT OF BEAUTY.

The maid was clad in virgin white And 'mid tho roses straying; A tender, soft, and fairy light Around her form, was playing. The roses kissed her dainty hand, The fond birds fluttered o'er her; And I? — I joined the loving band, And bowed my heart before her! Her beauty was a thing to dream, Of earth it had no leaven; It seemed to me a blessed beam Shot from the light of heaven! Of love I had no lips to breathe In that pure virgin presence ; She passed : this lowly verse I wreathe To beauty's perfect essence. -H. J. B. THE PASSION FLOWER. Accept, dear girl, this Flower of LightApt emblem of thy beauty's power, — And wear it in thy hair to-night, For thou art, sweet, my Passion Flower! -H. J. B. November, 1899.
