RIVERSDILE.

November 27. — We have had some fine growing •weather here lately, warm showers and Several heavy thunder storms. Crops and grass are therefore looking at their very best, find the turnips should have a good chance this year. Heavy as the rain 1708 bere lost week, it must have been much heavier further up country, as the rivers were in flood for Beveral days. At present the gla-ss is low, and s'fill falling, but I hope that we shall have a fine day for Priday — tKe '"people's day" of the Gore- A. and P. show. The association is holding a two-day show this year for the first time, and the experiment will be watched with interest. Some people think the place too small to support a two-day show. x Politics. — Both Wakatipu candidates have been away addressing the northern part of the Jleotooite io; somo time now. «q that we are

having a lull in matters political. The Transvaal war also takes away some of the interest, but things will boom, again next week, ■when, the final treat takes place. Mr Fraser is my fancy for the seat, as I do not think Mr Kelly nearly strong enough to oust his opponent..

Testimonial to Mr W. Gee. — Some of Mr Gee's friends entertained him at a smoke oqncert in the athenffium last Saturday night. About 20 were present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Mr W. A. Donald was in the chair, and in the course of the evening presented Mr Gee with a very handsome gold watch chain and locket, the latter suitably inscribed. When making the presentation the chairman referred in appropriate terms to Mr Gee's many good qualities, and more especially to the assistance he had always given to help the district in every way. They had favourably known Mr Gee as a volunteer, as a cricketer, as a footballer, and as secretary to nearly every institution in tho place. Mr Gee briefly replied, thanking his friends for the presentation. During the evening songs were sung by Messrs Cameron, Rambaum, Tanner, W." Hall, Slocombe, Lawrence, and W. Gee.
